Cuttack is an old popular city in the eastern Indian state of Odisha. The city is a peninsula, with the Mahanadi River in the north and the Katajodi River in the south. The ruins of the Barabati Fort, once taken over by the Eastern Ganges dynasty, have medieval significance. On the walls of the fort are the Shahi Mosque and three white domes. One of the major attractions is the Ma Chandi Temple, a major pilgrimage site for Hindu devotees. Every day thousands of visitors come to this temple to offer puja.
I wanted to visit Maa Chandi Mandir, Bali Jatra Festival, Mahanadi Barrage, and Odisha State Museum. So I first set off from Kolkata Howrah train station for Cuttack. Very good seat 3rd AC ticket was cut so I came comfortably and reached the Cuttack station. Then at 9 o’clock at night. Leaving the station, we ate hot fluids made by a local man on the side of the road. While eating, I looked at the main gate of the station again and was shocked. What a beautiful gate, a small Chandi temple in front of the gate. Ah, the mind was covered. I took an auto from the station and went to the side of the traditional Chandi temple in Cuttack.
A friend of mine lives next door to Cuttack Stadium. He is a bar manager, singing at the bar. I went straight to his house. Of course, he had a request. I also used to work in a bar in Siliguri with my friend Sanju. In a word, we had a great friendship, we still have that love.
As soon as I informed my friend about my travel plane, he gave me a supper guideline to visit the main attraction of the Cuttack.
The Great Chandi Temple: This Chandi temple has been carrying the tradition of Odisha for hundreds of years. The ancient idol of the temple is like an open book of lifelong love to the people of India. I also witnessed this love. There are four lion statues above and below the entrance of Mata Chandi temple. Inside the temple, beautiful arrangements have been made for burning incense. Idol house on four sides and incense and lamp burning stand in the middle. Visitors continue to light lamps at all times. The idol of the mother straight at the main gate. Inside the temple, the message of peace is ringing in the corners of the mind.
I did not know that there was no permission to take pictures inside the temple. I made a mistake, so I ate too much. There are many houses inside the temple, each house also has a different idol. The idols seemed very ancient to me. The idol of Mata Chandi is very small in size but very beautiful. I bowed and left for the next destination. I rubbed my heart with love and mother’s blessing. Be a good mother in the world.
Bali Jatra Festival
The Bali Jatra Mela is an example of the Hindu tradition in Odisha. This fair is also known as the only open trade fair in Asia. It is said that at one time this fair was organized on the occasion of a sea voyage for the purpose of trade in distant lands. Following the ancient tradition, Bali Jatra Mela is still popular in the world. The Bali Jatra Mela is organized at the end of every English year on the banks of the Mahanadi River in the Barbati Fort area of Cuttack. The government of Odisha itself is the initiator of Bali Jatra Mela. We walked out of the Chandi temple to see the city, first to Cuttack Stadium, then to the fairgrounds.
I went to the main gate of the fair and stopped. At the top of the gate is a large boat, with several people in it. It is understood that the royal merchants started their journey for trade by boat. People from different parts of the country are buying and selling by entering various shops to enter the fair. I also kept looking around, various small and big shops, and various items. My favorite carousel, camel safari, elephant ride. I enjoyed this traditional Bali Jatra Mela of Odisha by eating a variety of hand-made food. On one side of the field, the government has tried to highlight the heritage of Odisha. At the same time, the government of Odisha gave an opportunity to see the heritage of the whole of Odisha through this fair.
Now it’s 2 o’clock, it’s time to leave the fair and go to the third destination. Lunch is already over because I ate everything I liked to see at the fair. Now it is better not to have bad digestion.
Mahanadi Barrage is located in the Jobra area of Cuttack city. The State Museum is located next to the barrage. A beautiful small park on the banks of the river Mahanadi associated with the barrage. Next to the park is a huge staircase to go down to the river. From this park, when you look at the Mahanadi Barrage, you can see amazing beauty. It takes half an hour to walk from one side of the barrage to the other. The train road that runs along the river Mahanadi looks very beautiful from the barrage. This scene looks even more beautiful at night.
In the water part of the barrage, the river has been kept closed on small decks. The gathering of guest birds in captivity gives great pleasure to the thirsty people. The view of fishing with fishing rods from the pillars of the dam is a touch of unearthly beauty. However, the daring fishing scene from the top of the dam is frightening to the common mind. It is impossible without local people. I got a lot of pleasure from visiting Mahanadi Barrage.
At noon I felt extremely hot on the road to Mahanadi Barrage. Excessive heat may have been felt due to the distance from the bridge to the river. Afternoon atmosphere at the truly beautiful Mahanadi Barrage. I would request you to read this article and if anyone comes to visit Mahanadi Barrage, it is better to save time in the afternoon and evening. Then it will be worthwhile to travel to Mahanadi Barrage.
Odisha State Museum
To enter the museum, one has to buy a ticket from the counter for ten rupees. As soon as I entered, I started looking slowly from the right side. Odisha tradition of arranging each house separately. Early on the porch were the famous portraits of Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet on the Titanic.
I kept looking at all the house patterns, learning as much as I saw. Old boats, engines, hourglasses, maritime history, maps of Odisha, coast galleries, and much more. I saw everything one by one with time. Towards the end, I was really impressed by the library, the art gallery, and a huge exhibition of hand-knitted fabrics. I really mingled with a wonderful environment for a while. Inside the museum, there is a beautiful flower garden, with a high furnace in the middle of the garden. The furnace is surrounded by well-decorated flowers and leafy trees.
In a word, the whole day can be spent anxiously at the Cuttack State Museum. The State Museum in Cuttack will be the best museum in my eyes.
